Kharchai is expense management software for Nepali organizations: one system where expenses get submitted, approved, and paid, and where the books always add up.
What we want to do
Walk into most Nepali offices and expenses still mean paper vouchers, Excel sheets, and calling the boss for approval. Receipts go missing. Approvals live in somebody's memory. When the month closes, the accounts team spends days piecing together what was actually spent.
Kharchai puts all of that in one system. An employee submits an expense, the right person approves it, and finance pays it. Underneath, every transaction lands on a proper double-entry ledger, the kind an auditor would actually want to see. Budgets, branches, and category limits are handled too, and the whole thing works in both Nepali and English.
We don't think that level of financial control should be reserved for companies that can afford a big ERP. A ten-person shop deserves the same clarity as a fifty-branch chain.
Who is behind it
Right now, Kharchai is one person: Prabesh Pathak, a self-taught developer from Nepal. Outside of Kharchai he builds games and websites, and helps run Sojo Society, a community of Nepali programmers, game developers, artists, and musicians.
When you write to Kharchai, you're talking to the person who builds it. Questions get straight answers, and good ideas have a short path into the product.
Making things is what I care about most. Creation itself keeps me going.
